NetBackup Master Server configuration lost

$

I need a solution

My Veritas NetBackup 6.5 Windows server BACKUP01 was hung up and after the server was shutdown and rebooted:

The Administration Console GUI launches and has the following errors if almost anything is selected:

Unable to read configuration: cannot connect on socket (25)
Unable to connect to the EMM server. The EMM server failed to process the request (78)
Error connecting to oprd on Bkup-01: cannot connect to vmd (70)

Server BACKUP01 was configured as the master and media server, but now the Administration Console GUI (upper left corner) shows the server as Bkup-01 and as a media server instead of master server.

Any ideas as to why that may have changed? Perhaps a corrupted configuration?
I am currently researching the issue but any suggestions on how to troubleshoot and correct the problem would be most welcome.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

(Crossposted from the Netting Out NetBackup blog)

I’m extremely happy to announce that NetBackup 7.6.0.2 is now Generally Available!

NetBackup 7.6.0.2 is our first maintenance release for the NetBackup 7.6 line ("7.6.0.1" was our "7.6 GA" release). This release contains fixes to 568 issues including resolutions for most commonly downloaded EEBs, customer escalations, and critical internally found defects. 7.6.0.2 also provides several critical security fixes and many high-demand proliferations to our customers. The significant content of this release is:

  • Almost 200 customer-related defect fixes, including 12 issues highlighted in the 7.6 Late Breaking News
  • Security fixes - most notably, removal/update of all components making use of an OpenSSL version potentially affected by "Heartbleed"
  • Parity with 7.5.0.7 - if you were still waiting for a 7.5.0.7 fix to make it into the 7.6 line, here's your update!
  • Proliferations:
    • Oracle 12c
    • Hyper-V 2012 R2 w/File level GRT
    • VDDK 5.5 (I understand that some of you are interested in this one!)
    • FT Media Server SLES 11 SP3
    • BMR Proliferations (Solaris 11.1, Suse 11 SP2/SP3, Windows 2012/8, RHEL6 XEN)
  • Features
    • Amazon Cloud Non-US Regions Support (7.5 line parity)

To download 7.6.0.2, please visit the following page:

NetBackup 7.6.0.2 Download Links
 http://symantec.com/docs/TECH214999

This is a MAINTENANCE Release for NetBackup (as opposed to a Release Update) - it can ONLY be applied on top of NetBackup 7.6 GA.  (If you are currently running 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.1, 7.1.0.x, 7.5 OR 7.5.0.x, you will need to upgrade to 7.6 GA before you can apply 7.6.0.2.)

To check to see if your particular Etrack is resolved in NetBackup 7.6.0.2, please refer to these Release Notes and our updated EEB guide:

I need a solution

Hi All,

We have a customer who is having 20 CCTV cameras.
So the daily data generated by the CCTV cameras (.avi file) is 300 GB.
It is storing it in Network Video Recorder right now.
They also have a tape drive which is connected to a server and is stand alone.
So they want us to take backup of this huge data on to a tape drive.
Also they want to compress this data by Backup Exec or any other method if it is possible

Thanks
Saurabh

Trouble upgrading RAWS on Mac OS X

I need a solution

Hi All,

This may be simple for a seasoned professional, basically we have a Mac OS X server running 10.8.5 with a Backup Exec Agent installed (was comissioned by an engineer with agent VRTSRalus 13.05204).  The problem I am experiencing is now when I try to upgrade the agent I receive the following error:

'This patch only applies to RALUS/RAWS shipped with Backup Exec 2012 ...exiting'

I'm following Symantec article TECH179999 when I receive these errors and can only assume I need to remove the previous Agent as the current agent I'm trying to upgrade to is 'ralus1798'.

I may be totally wrong as I have had little to do with Mac OS X and backup Exec Agents.

Any help on this matter would be grately appreciated.

Cheers

Colin

I'm in the process of decomissiong some older volume pools, and need to move the tapes into other volume pools.

Am I missing something or is all I need to do is highlight the tapes in one of the older volume pools, right-click and "Change" the volume pool from there ?

SSR2013 - Win8.1 Support

$

Symantec needs to respond to changes in operating systems in a timely manner.  To not be able to fully utilize SSR because incremental backups are not supported in Windows 8.1 nearly a year after it was released is a shame.  Windows 8.1 was first unveiled and released as a public beta in June 2013, it was released to manufacturing on August 27, 2013, and reached general availability on October 17, 2013,  We are now in May of 2014 and still do not have support of this OS.  This is a great product however without incremental backups, one is limited by the size of the destination HDD and thus the number of backups and depth of history of these backups.

5220 Appliance NetBackup Processes Stop at the Weekend

I need a solution

Hi, I have a NetBackup 5220 Appliance on 2.5.4 acting as a Media Server.

Every weekend the Netbackup processes get stopped and I have to start them up again on Monday.

The only clue I have found so far is in the SCSP Audit Logs found on the Appliance web page. Would this be the likely reason for the processes getiing stopped? And how do I reeconfigure SCSP to prevent it happening again. I checked the SCSP admin guides found here but there's nothig obvious...

When will NBU support Domino 9.0 on Red Hat Linux?

I am aware the NBU team is slowly adding support for IBM Domino 9.0.  It is now supported on Windows 2008 and 2013, as well as SLES and AIX.  My question is if anybody knows when NBU will support Domino 9.0 on Red Hat Linux? IBM Domino 9.0 was released a year ago.  This is quite an urgent matter for us.

Thanks!

Hi,

I am my question here to hopefully find anyone in the support community that knows what a computer is :)

Our Media servers are replicated with CASO and all seems to function fine. (Well, as fine as most 2012 infrras)

I would like to understand what the error 2 means. here is a copy of an exact error.

We just setup a new Windows 2012 client with Oracle 12c and using Rman backup. The backup via LAN is working fine, but when we use FT transport for backup, it failed with error 6.

I did search around and found this http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74570

I checked the log on account for the SAN client and NetBackup Client service are using the same account, which is the default local system account.

I even tried change the log on account to an account with local admin rights and in the oracle_dba group, but still face the same issue.

So would like to get some help here.

Thanks.

I need a solution

What are the firewall ports between the SSR server and the target client require to be open on the firewall?
